SAN PEDRO : Mechanical Breakdown Blamed in Truck Crash

Share

Police said Friday that a mechanical problem apparently caused a runaway truck to crash through a San Pedro home, leaving an elderly woman seriously injured when the vehicle pinned her against a stove.

Dora Myron, 70, of Rancho Palos Verdes was in guarded condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance. She suffered a broken right leg, broken left ankle and chest injuries in Thursday’s accident.

Police Officer Gary Robinson said no charges had been filed against the driver of the truck, Raul Garcia Munoz, 20.

The five-ton flatbed truck carrying trash dumpsters was parked atop a hill when it began rolling about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The truck rolled down a narrow residential street, jumped a curb, struck a light pole and knocked down a tree, carrying part of the trunk inside the wood-frame house.
