A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Friday after he reportedly fired at a Santa Ana FBI agent on duty in Cowan Heights.

The agent was not hit, said Ron Twersky, FBI public affairs specialist.

The agent arrived at Alex Thomas Pirro’s house on Derby Drive about 10 a.m. to question him as part of an investigation, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

After Pirro refused to cooperate, the agent walked to his car. From the front door, Pirro fired one shot at the agent and then retreated inside his house, according to the Sheriff’s Departmen. Pirro subsequently returned to the front door and surrendered.

The FBI plans to charge Pirro on Tuesday with attempted homicide of a police officer, Twersky said. Pirro is being held without bail in the Orange County Jail. The FBI and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.
