The City Council has voted to increase the speed limit on one street and establish two new speed limits in the city.

City staff recommended the changes to comply with a state law that requires enforceable speed limits be posted.

The speed limit on La Paz Road between Crown Valley Parkway and Rancho Niguel Road will increase from 40 to 45 m.p.h. A traffic survey found that the average speed there is 48 m.p.h.

The new speed limits will be on Talavera Drive and a section of the newly extended Cabot Road. Cars will not be allowed to travel more than 30 m.p.h. on Talavera, or more than 45 m.p.h. on Cabot Road between Crown Valley Parkway and the city’s northern boundary.

The traffic survey showed that the average speed on Cabot Road between Rapid Falls Road and the city limits is also 48 m.p.h.
