Pair Found Dead Were Strangled

Two bodies found over the weekend had been taped up, bound in plastic trash bags and strangled, homicide investigators said Tuesday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators have identified one of the victims, but withheld the name until relatives were notified, said Lt. Ray Peavy, one of three detectives investigating the double slaying.

The body of the second victim has not been identified, he said. Investigators also are trying to determine the nationality of both victims, he added.

Peavy said the deaths have the look of an organized crime killing.

“It seems like they wanted to send a message to somebody or get their attention,” Peavy said.

Because one of the victims, a 25-year-old man, was a convicted drug dealer, “They may have been involved in some narcotics trafficking when this occurred,” Peavy said.

The bodies were discovered in underbrush along Lopez Canyon Road at about 10 a.m. Saturday by bicyclists, authorities said.
