Paul R. Picard; Producer of ‘Dukes of Hazzard’

Paul R. Picard, 63, television producer best known for his series “The Dukes of Hazzard.” In addition to the eight-season hillbilly hit, Picard produced television movies and miniseries such as “Scruples,” “California Fever” and “The Pirate.” He began his career as an actor, but soon switched to producing network game shows, television commercials and segments for ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.” As an executive for ABC, Picard developed and supervised production of such programs as “General Hospital,” “The Lawrence Welk Show” and the annual Academy Awards presentation. In addition to working for ABC, Picard was an executive and producer with MGM Television and Warner Bros. Television. On Oct. 3 in Tuscany, Italy, of pancreatic cancer.
