ELKO, Nev. — An Elko Police Department dispatcher and her husband have been arrested on charges of child abuse and neglect after leaving their three children at home while they went on a six-day vacation, police said Friday.
Chief Bob Songer said Dan Baker, 38, and his wife, Kathy, 34, were arrested Thursday when they returned from their trip to Lake Powell in Utah. They had been gone since Oct. 14.
Police and the state Division of Child and Family Services received a report Tuesday that two boys ages 13 and 10 and a 7-year-old girl were alone in the home.
Because the children had no adult supervision and because of the poor conditions inside the house, the children were placed in temporary foster care.
The couple faces four counts of child abuse or neglect.
The chief says Kathy Baker’s job status is under internal review. “I consider these charges extremely serious,” he said.
