TRABUCO CANYON : Huntington Beach Driver Killed

Share

A Huntington Beach man died Sunday night when the car he was driving failed to negotiate a curve on Live Oak Canyon Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Brian Joseph Cruzat, 37, who was alone in the car, was driving east about 10 p.m. when the car went off the road and struck an embankment, said CHP Officer Bruce Lian. The car flipped over and rolled back onto the road near Canyon Creek Drive, Lian said.

Officers found a small amount of methamphetamine on Cruzat and were investigating the crash as drug-related, Lian said. No other vehicles were involved.

Cruzat, who was wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the car and suffered head injuries, Lian said.

He said officers did not know how fast Cruzat was going on the winding road, which has a posted 35-m.p.h. speed limit.
