PASADENA: A 39-year-old La Canada Flintridge woman...

PASADENA: A 39-year-old La Canada Flintridge woman was found dead in a park Sunday morning. The woman, who was not identified because relatives had not yet been notified, was discovered just after 6 a.m. in a bathroom at Oak Grove Park, police said. Police believe she died of a combination of alcohol and the prescription drug Xanax.

POMONA: Two Pomona men were wounded Saturday morning in the 600 block of Karesh Avenue when two men walked up to them and opened fire. Frederick Newberry, 30, and Robert Bell, 21, were shot just before 5 a.m. in front of a house. Bell was shot multiple times in the torso and leg but was released from the hospital Monday, police said. Newberry’s condition is unknown. The suspects fled in an older four-door American car. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

POMONA: Police arrested five people--including a 15-year-old Ontario girl--on suspicion of possession for sale of a controlled substance on Oct. 20. Three men, a woman and the female juvenile were arrested in the 1100 block of San Bernardino Road at 4:45 p.m. after police officers witnessed narcotics transactions. When the officers attempted to detain the suspects, they fled, throwing narcotics into the street. Police recovered cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

SAN GABRIEL: Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city on Saturday night. Approaching motorists will see signs advising them that a checkpoint is ahead. All vehicles will be checked unless traffic becomes too heavy, police said.
