LONG BEACH : Law Eases Site Limits on Adult Businesses
A new zoning ordinance that will allow topless clubs and other adult entertainment businesses to operate closer to schools, homes and churches has been given final approval by a reluctant City Council.
The new law, which council members ratified last week, will go into effect Nov. 20.
The council’s action came after judges, in two separate lawsuits against the city, said Long Beach’s current law may be unconstitutional because it doesn’t provide enough commercial areas for adult businesses.
City officials said the new law will continue to enforce buffer zones between adult businesses and homes, but the buffers will be reduced from 500 feet to 300 feet. Adult businesses can also set up 500 feet from churches and 600 feet from a park, closer than the previous 1,000-foot limit.
