Share

More than $1,000 was raised Saturday at a car wash to help pay for the funeral of a 15-year-old Collister Natis Stinson, who police said was fatally wounded by her father.

About 10 teen-agers, all friends of Natis, the middle name the teenager was known by, washed more than 50 vehicles from 9 a.m. to nightfall, said Trina Filbey, who organized the event.

Volunteers will wash cars again today at the Mesa Verde Shell Station at 3131 Harbor Blvd., she said.

There is no set price for the car wash, and drivers made donations of various sizes Saturday.

Police said that David Curtis Stinson shot his daughter apparently while cleaning his gun inside their Costa Mesa apartment. He was arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday and remained at the Costa Mesa Jail on Saturday.
