Chad May broke the game open with two third-quarter touchdown passes, Ron Brown scored twice and No. 23 Kansas State forced five turnovers in defeating Oklahoma, 37-20, on Saturday at Norman, Okla.

The Wildcats, 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big Eight, scored more points than they had in 39 previous trips to Norman, and have won consecutive games against Oklahoma for the first time since 1969-70.

Oklahoma (4-4, 2-2) lost three fumbles and two interceptions in falling to its worst eight-game record since 1965, when it was 3-5.

“We had what, five or six turnovers today?” Coach Gary Gibbs said. “We had 22 going into the ballgame and you add five more and you have 27, and you’re not going to be a good football team. It’s just not going to happen.”

The Sooners even tried a no-huddle offense, but not much worked. Along with the turnovers, they had a punt blocked, another punt deflected, fumbled a punt return and had a botched conversion attempt result in two points for the Wildcats.

May passed for only 115 yards, fewest of his two-year Kansas State career, but he made the Sooners pay for their inability to take advantage of great first-half field position.

Missouri 34, Iowa State 20--Jeff Handy passed for 320 yards and directed Missouri’s three longest touchdown drives of the season at Ames, Iowa, as the Tigers kept Iowa State winless.

Handy completed 20 of 31 passes, including a 23-yarder to Lamont Frazier for a touchdown, in leading Missouri (3-5, 2-2) to season highs for points and total offense (498 yards).

Iowa State (0-7-1, 0-3-1) faces the prospect of its first season without a victory since 1930, when it was 0-9. It finishes against No. 23 Kansas State, No. 3 Nebraska and No. 2 Colorado.

Kansas 24, Oklahoma State 14--L.T. Levine broke for a 61-yard touchdown run on the Jayhawks’ second play at Lawrence, Kan.

It was the fifth consecutive victory for Kansas (5-3, 2-2) over Oklahoma State (3-4-1, 0-3-1) and kept alive the Jayhawks’ hopes for a bowl bid.

Levine finished with 161 yards.
