MONTEREY PARK : Landlord Held in Slaying, Burning of Victim’s Body

Share

A Monterey Park man was ordered held on $1-million bail Tuesday on a charge that he murdered a tenant, dismembered his body and tried to get rid of the parts by burning them and throwing them into a dumpster.

Arraignment for Peter Earl Burza, 41, was set for Nov. 15 in Alhambra Municipal Court.

Burza was arrested Friday, when police arrived at his home and saw smoke rising from his chimney and smelled the pungent odor of burned flesh, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Stanley Williams. Police were tipped by gas station employees who said they had seen Burza throwing something into their trash bin earlier in the day. Williams said the victim, Craig Russel Kensinger, 42, had recently begun renting a room at Burza’s Monterey Park home.
