BURBANK : Airport Gets Grant to Soundproof Schools
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $3 million to Burbank Airport to soundproof two schools.
The FAA grant will be coupled with $722,546 from the Burbank Airport Authority to soundproof St. Patrick’s School in North Hollywood and Mingay Adult School in Burbank. Both schools are about one mile from the airport.
The project is scheduled to take at least two years, said Victor Gill, spokesman for the airport.
The soundproofing project is the result of an acoustical assessment done in 1989, after which the FAA and airport allotted a total of $10 million to sound-insulate neighboring schools.
