A man who had been stabbed several times while sitting in his car was discovered by teen-agers early Tuesday who originally thought the man’s body was a Halloween prank, Los Angeles police said.

Leopoldo Yerena, 42, of Arleta, died at Holy Cross Medical Center, authorities said.

Three youths, who were driving in the area about 1 a.m., found Yerena sitting behind the steering wheel of a parked car in the 10200 block of Vena Avenue near Van Nuys Boulevard, said LAPD Detective Frank Bishop.

“At first they thought (the body) was a dummy, some Halloween prank,” Bishop said. “But after they saw all the blood, they weren’t sure and called police.”

Detectives have no leads. “We don’t know why he was sitting there,” Bishop said. “We don’t know who did it. There were no witnesses.”
