This Week, Tustin Ends Skid by Beating Ocean View

One of the happiest men in Orange County today is Tustin Coach Tim Ellis.

Ellis and the Tillers ended their 14-game losing streak Thursday night with a 13-0 Golden West League victory over Ocean View during the Seahawks’ homecoming at Westminster High.

“I can’t tell you how good it feels,” Ellis said. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Tustin (1-8, 1-3 in league) hadn’t won since defeating University, 24-21, in the fourth game of last season. The Tillers lost their final six games last year, then dropped eight in a row before Thursday’s victory.

Two first-half touchdowns were enough for Tustin. Quarterback Kevin Timone connected with Reggie Curry on a 12-yard scoring pass late in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. A 42-yard catch by Curry set up a nine-yard touchdown pass from Timone to Pierre Sanjurjo with 9:27 remaining in the second quarter.

Ocean View (1-8, 1-3), which ended a 36-game losing streak last Friday in a victory over Santa Ana, had numerous scoring opportunities. Ocean View managed only 101 yards in offense.

Tustin’s Brandon Lambert ran for a game-high 129 yards in 21 carries. Tustin finished with 311 yards overall, its highest output this season.
