LOS ALAMITOS : Ah Sigh Wins Ed Burke Futurity

Share

Favored Ah Sigh won her seventh race in eight career starts in the $185,000 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity on Friday night at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by John Creager, Ah Sigh broke perfectly from the inside post position, immediately taking charge of the 350-yard race. The First Down Dash filly was never challenged, finishing nearly a length in front of runner-up The Fling King. Fruitstand Johnny, who was claimed for $6,250 in August, finished third.

Trained by Charlie Bloomquist for owner Frank Nakamura, Ah Sigh posted a winning time of 17.63 seconds, and paid $3.40, $2.80, and $2.20. Ah Sigh previously won the Miss Kindergarten Futurity and finished third in the Governor’s Cup Futurity, making her one of the top 2-year-old fillies in the nation.

Creager, who is serving a suspension for an incident last weekend on Griswold, was given clearance to ride in the Ed Burke. Several fans were obviously still upset with Creager, jeering at the jockey as he returned to the winner’s circle on Ah Sigh.
