PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Clemmons’ Late Kick Lifts Knights

In hindsight, the coach said he should have gone for two. Instead, Orange Coach Dick Hill and the Panthers let Foothill off the hook.

Cody Clemmons’ 21-yard field goal with 32 seconds remaining gave Foothill a 15-14 victory over Orange in a Century League game Friday night in front of about 2,200 at Tustin High.

It clinched a share of the league title for Foothill, which can win it outright next week with a victory over El Modena.

Hill second-guessed himself after the loss, saying he should have ordered his team to attempt a two-point conversion after a 24-yard touchdown run by quarterback Andy Lauridsen gave Orange a 13-12 lead with 3:45 left. The Panthers kicked the extra point for a two-point lead.

“I should have gone for two,” Hill said. “It would have been a good idea.”

Foothill (5-4, 4-0 in league), which won its fourth in a row and its 12th consecutive in league, drove 73 yards in seven plays to the Orange 7. Clemmons kicked the game-winner four plays later.

Foothill, which trailed, 7-0, at halftime, dominated the second half. The Knights finished with 437 yards in total offense to 210 for Orange, but four Foothill turnovers, three of them inside the Orange 30, kept the Panthers (4-5, 1-3) within striking distance.

Foothill quarterback Tyler Lang completed 16 of 18 passes for a season-high 238 yards and two touchdowns. Two of his passes were intercepted. Tramel Robinson rushed for a game-high 141 yards and caught seven passes.
