PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : SEA VIEW LEAGUE : Jarrett Takes Three Tips to Get El Toro a Victory

Share

El Toro’s Jason Jarrett knew it was possible to win a game on a last-second desperation pass, but he just didn’t believe it was possible Friday night with El Toro trailing Woodbridge and the ball sitting at the Chargers’ 37 yard-line with 10 seconds left.

Jarrett became a believer after he caught a pass from Brian Wilson that had been tipped three times and raced the final 15 yards to give El Toro a 30-28 victory in a Sea View League game at Trabuco Hills High School.

“The coaches diagramed the play before we went in and told me to wait for the tip,” Jarrett said. “But I thought, ‘This can’t happen.’ ”

The play was the perfect ending for a game that featured big and wild plays.

After El Toro took a 14-0 lead, an advantage Charger Coach Mike Milner said he hoped would “take the life out of them.” Woodbridge didn’t roll over and give up, however.

Woodbridge’s Carl Howard ran 33 yards on a reverse to pull the Warriors to within seven. And they tied the score after John Meineke returned an El Toro fumble to the two and Casey Harris snuck in for the touchdown two plays later.

The Chargers appeared to put the game out of reach when Jamie Hanaway ran 19 yards for the touchdown. Woodbridge again bounced right back, however, when Theo Wakefield ran 56 yards on the Warriors’ first play from scrimmage to make it 24-21.

Woodbridge then took the lead when an El Toro punt was batted the ball into the hands of Nate Perrizo who ran 56 yards untouched to make the score 28-24.
