Tommy Summers rushed for three touchdowns as Pacifica scored 39 first-half points en route to a 45-0 rout of La Quinta in Garden Grove League play Friday at Bolsa Grande High School.

Summers scored on runs of two, 16 and four yards as the Mariners (5-4, 3-2) scored touchdowns the first six times they touched the ball, including four offensive possessions and fumble recoveries by Donald Douglass and Jeff Burt.

Pacifica’s defense held the Aztecs (1-8, 0-6) to minus-5 yards total offense in the first half and 64 yards total. La Quinta did not cross midfield until the Mariners fumbled a ball in their territory with less than one minute remaining in the game.

Pacifica kept its playoff hopes alive with limited but effective use of its first-string attack. Ryan Johansen completed four of six passes for 84 yards--including a 22-yard touchdown strike to Rich Campos late in the second quarter--and did not attempt a pass in the second half.

Summers carried nine times for 93 yards before giving way to Eric Westlund, who took the Mariners the rest of the way with 85 yards in 17 carries.
