SOUTH GATE : Volunteers to Staff Police Drop-In Site

Share

The city will open a police drop-in center next week at Montara Avenue Elementary School that will serve as a convenient, comfortable place for residents to bring concerns and obtain information about law enforcement and safety.

“This unique center will mean that the police and the city will be that much closer to the pulse of the community and thus better able to serve the community,” said Mayor Albert T. Robles.

The center will open Nov. 15 and will be staffed by civilian volunteers who live in the neighborhood surrounding the school at 11018 Montara Ave. Residents will be able to get information on home and traffic safety, gang and drug prevention, and city services Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m.

“We consider this a pilot program and look forward to having a similar program established in each of our schools throughout the city,” Robles said.

The project is part of the city’s community-based policing efforts, which aim to develop better relations between the community and police.
