An escaped convict from Maui sentenced to 20 years behind bars for sexual assault, kidnaping and burglary was being held Saturday in Orange County Jail after being captured Wednesday by FBI agents in San Juan Capistrano, authorities said.

Richard M. Ruh, 32, was taken into custody without incident after he was missing for eight months, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ruh escaped March 2 or 3 from the Maui Community Correctional Center by cutting a hole in the ceiling to the recreation room and another hole in the perimeter fence, according to the release. After Hawaiian authorities failed to find him, they asked for assistance from the FBI.
