Gasoline Prices Head Upward: The retail price rose 1 1/2 cents a gallon during the past two weeks, reversing a trend of falling prices that began in late August, according to a newsletter. The average pump price on Friday was $1.22 a gallon, up 1.53 cents from Oct. 21, said Trilby Lundberg, whose publication conducts a survey of 10,000 gas stations nationwide. The primary reason for the increase was the federally mandated sale of more costly oxygenated gasoline, Lundberg said. Prices can be expected to rise again with the Jan. 1 implementation of federal requirements to sell reformulated gas.
