TENNIS ROUNDUP : Agassi No. 2 After Paris Victory

Andre Agassi won the $2.2-million Paris Open on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Marc Rosset of Switzerland and moved to No. 2 in the world rankings.

“The best thing is to win Grand Slam tournaments,” said Agassi, the 1992 Wimbledon and 1994 U.S. Open champion. “Hopefully, some day you can say, ‘Yeah, I was No. 1 for a while or for this long.’ But to win the Grand Slam tournaments is what is most important to me.”

Katarina Maleeva of Bulgaria won her first tournament in three years when she defeated Brenda Schultz of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-3, in the final of the Bell Challenge in Quebec City.

Alberto Berasategui of Spain defeated countryman Francisco Clavet, 6-4, 6-0, to win the Topper Open in Montevideo, Uruguay.

USC’s Brett Hansen defeated Roger Pettersson of Nevada Las Vegas, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, for the championship of the Rolex-ITA Regional at UC Irvine.
