Ram President John Shaw, who will meet with Baltimore and St. Louis officials this week in Los Angeles, dismissed a report Sunday night that had the team ready to make application to move to St. Louis.

“It will be several weeks before we get in position to make a final decision,” Shaw said. “We have absolutely made no decision to move. There are still several open points with St. Louis, and it’s my understanding they will be coming here Thursday or Friday to discuss them.”

Jack Buck, a St. Louis-based and nationally known broadcaster, caused a stir with a report Sunday that the Rams’ advisory board is in the process of making a recommendation that the team move to St. Louis. Buck attributed the report to an unnamed source.

“I have no idea what he’s talking about,” Shaw said. “Georgia Frontiere will make the final decision and I am in the process of gathering information to properly advise her.”

Shaw indicated the Ram advisory board, which is composed of business leaders and celebrities, will have no say in the team’s decision to stay or leave.

“I can see where someone might become confused. Our lawyers are in the process of putting together a statement of reasons on why we would move, if that’s ownership’s decision. It’s something preliminary, and something we have been doing in both St. Louis and Baltimore. We have said all along we will make application to the league if the decision is to move, and this work is necessary to comply with league requirements.”

Shaw said Peter Angelos, majority owner of the Baltimore Orioles, canceled a Friday meeting in Los Angeles, but will be here Wednesday. The election of a new governor in Maryland could impact the decision to provide a new rent-free stadium for the Rams.
