The San Diego Chargers will have quarterback Stan Humphries back when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He sat out the 10-9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday to allow his dislocated left elbow to heal. His backup, Gale Gilbert, made his first start in eight seasons.

“Stan will not be questionable,” Coach Bobby Ross said. “He will play and he will start. That’s a fact. Unless he gets hurt this week.”

The Chargers defeated the Chiefs, 20-6, in San Diego on Oct. 9. But they haven’t won in Kansas City since 1989.

Miami Dolphin Coach Don Shula said leading receiver and scorer Keith Byars will be sidelined the rest of the season because of a knee injury that will require reconstructive surgery.

The nine-year veteran has been Miami’s top receiver with 49 catches and touchdown leader with seven. His two receptions Sunday extended his streak of catching at least one pass to 111 consecutive regular season games.

Indianapolis Colt quarterback Don Majkowski suffered a partially torn ligament in his right thumb on the third play of Sunday’s 22-21 loss to Miami and will be sidelined two to four weeks. The Colts have a bye this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers might not know until late in the week if quarterback Neil O’Donnell can play next Monday night against the Buffalo Bills. O’Donnell, who injured his left leg in overtime Sunday at Houston, was diagnosed with a lower left leg contusion and a sprained ankle. Mike Tomczak will start against Buffalo if O’Donnell can’t.
