Rosemary Homeister was named recipient of the 1992 Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice jockey on Wednesday, replacing the original winner, Jesus Bracho, who was found to be ineligible.

Homeister was runner-up in original voting by the Thoroughbred Racing Assns., the Daily Racing Form and members of the National Turf Writers’ Assn.

Bracho rode in Panama before coming to the United States, making him ineligible for the award.

He was suspended as a jockey on Nov. 2, 1993 after his previous experience was discovered. The return of the Eclipse Award had no bearing on the case.

Apprentice jockeys are given a weight allowance in the United States.
