Share

Police are searching for an unidentified gunman who shot and wounded a Glendale couple as they were driving home from work, police said Thursday.

The victims, a 46-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife, were leaving their business in the 500 block of West Garfield Avenue at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday when they noticed a man loitering on the sidewalk across the street. The couple told police that the man appeared to be watching them, and then he walked away.

According to a police report, the couple got into their car and drove northbound on Los Angeles Street, and saw the same man standing next to the curb. The man took out a gun from under his coat and fired three shots at their car as they drove by.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to his forehead and the woman was shot in the left shoulder and right arm. They were taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital, where the man was treated and released. The woman was scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday.

Police said the wounded man had a gun of his own in the car and used it to fire back at the assailant, but it was not known whether the man was hit.

The gunman was described as a Latino or Middle Eastern man, between 5 feet, 5 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing 170 to 180 pounds with dark hair combed back. He was wearing a dark, fluffy jacket.

Police said they do not believe the victims knew the gunman. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
