Pedestrian Is Fatally Struck by Car
A 50-year-old man was struck and killed Friday night while trying to dart across Newport Boulevard against a red light, investigators said.
The man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of his relatives, apparently ran in front of a car traveling north on Newport Boulevard at Bay Street and was struck about 7 p.m., Costa Mesa Officer Kelli Blanchard said Saturday.
He was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver, who was not cited, had a green light, Blanchard said. Police are continuing the investigation.
