Stray Puppy Lives, Thanks to Heart Surgery
One-year-old Bobby, suffering from a life-threatening heart defect, was homeless and wandering the streets of Calgary, Alberta, last month. Today he is recovering from open-heart surgery in an intensive care unit.
Doctors say he will be up and barking in no time.
When the stray Swiss Herding dog was picked up by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Calgary, he was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart disorder.
Canadian Airlines volunteered to fly the puppy to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for the dog-saving surgery.
“At this point, we’re very happy with his progress,” said David Fowler, who operated on Bobby with a five-person operating team for more than six hours.
