SOUTHWEST ROUNDUP : Texas A&M; Makes Plays to Hold Off Louisville, 26-10

Louisville tight end Jamie Asher said the Cardinals were as good as ninth-ranked Texas A&M; for all but five or six plays Saturday at Louisville, Ky.

But those five or six plays made the difference.

Corey Pullig completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Sanders and Leeland McElroy ran eight yards for a score as the Aggies defeated Louisville, 26-10.

The Aggies (9-0-1) came up with the defensive plays when they needed them, recovering a fumble in Louisville territory that led to the decisive touchdown.

Marty Lowe of Louisville (5-5) was sacked seven times and his team had minus-eight yards rushing.

Baylor 19, Rice 14--Bradford Lewis sprinted through the Owls’ defense for a 24-yard touchdown with 8:05 to play at Houston, helping the Bears keep their Cotton Bowl hopes alive.

Baylor, 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Southwest Conference, led throughout the game, then fell behind in the fourth quarter as Josh LaRocca of Rice (4-5, 3-3) passed for two touchdowns.

Texas 48, Houston 13--James Brown tied a school record with four touchdown passes at Austin, Tex., helping the Longhorns (6-4, 3-3) send the Cougars (1-8, 1-4) to their third consecutive loss.

Texas Christian 35, Southern Methodist 14--Max Knake passed for three touchdowns and Andre Davis scored twice at Dallas as the Horned Frogs (6-3, 3-2) kept their Cotton Bowl hopes alive while keeping the Mustangs (1-9-1, 0-6-1) winless in their last eight games.

Texas Tech 39, Southwestern Louisiana 7--Zebbie Lethridge passed for one touchdown and ran for two as the Red Raiders (5-4) romped over the Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5) at Lubbock, Tex.
