VENTURA : Beach Cleanup Plan Proposed for Spring
Ever wanted a stretch of beach for your very own? Yours to plaster your name all over--and yours to clean up?
Ventura may offer a bargain deal on public sand and ocean in the near future.
The Adopt-a-Beach program would allow individuals and companies to claim a length of public turf and erect a sign on that beach with their names.
The sponsor would then take on all responsibility for keeping that stretch free of trash and other debris.
“We’ve had interest expressed from a lot of businesses about doing something different at the beaches,” said Bill Byerts, Ventura’s parks manager.
Byerts said the city has hired a consultant to organize the program, which officials hope will be in place by late spring.
