Pete Sampras used his big serve to complete a perfect tune-up for the ATP Tour World Championships, beating Magnus Larsson, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, Sunday and retaining his $1.1 million European Community Championship title in Antwerp, Belgium.

The $3 million tour-ending event featuring the top eight players in the world begins Tuesday in Frankfurt, Germany.

Sampras, the world’s No. 1 player, won a record ninth tournament this season, his first since Wimbledon. He didn’t lose a set during the week and proved he is at his peak again after injuries slowed him this summer.
