A woman was killed Sunday night when her speeding car went out of control and plunged down a freeway embankment, police said.

Coroner’s officials identified the woman as Lupe Hernandez, 24, of Anaheim.

Police said she was thrown from the Toyota Corolla when it careened over the embankment, hit a tree and rolled over near the Riverside Freeway east of Lakeview Avenue. Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt, said CHP spokeswoman Officer Angel Johnson.

Hernandez was driving west at about 80 m.p.h. when she lost control, Johnson said. Police are investigating whether Hernandez was intoxicated, Johnson said.
