$700 OKd to Train Supervisors-Elect
Taxpayers will spend up to $700 to provide training for the two candidates elected to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors last week.
Board members agreed Tuesday to pay for a series of orientation seminars aimed at educating the supervisors-elect on the various duties of a county supervisor.
Supervisor-elect Frank Schillo, who will represent the Thousand Oaks area, said he attended the initial orientation in Long Beach on Tuesday on his way back from a trip to San Diego.
“This is very helpful to get started to understand the rules and regulations with having to be a supervisor,” he said.
Judy Mikels, who will take over Vicky Howard’s seat on the Board of Supervisors representing Simi Valley, Moorpark and the Santa Rosa Valley, said she was too busy to attend the Long Beach seminar.
But Mikels said she may attend the two follow-up orientations that are scheduled in Northern California next year.
“It’s really helpful, but I’ve done several of those types of training seminars with the League of California Cities,” Mikels said.
The board on Tuesday agreed to cover the $350 registration costs for each to attend the seminar series.
