Two men doing traffic control work early Thursday at Warner Avenue and Ross Street were struck and injured by an unidentified motorist who fled, authorities said.

Chris Agotsch, 20, of Laguna Hills and Scott Frank, 28, of Costa Mesa were picking up traffic cones at 4 a.m. when they were struck by a white Toyota pickup, police said.

Agotsch was pinned between a truck and the signal-board trailer it was towing. He was later reported in fair condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Frank, who was standing in the truck bed when the collision occurred, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Huntington Beach Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the driver of the pickup stopped briefly and then drove onto the southbound San Diego Freeway. He was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, with heavy mustache and eyeglasses, about 6 feet tall and of medium build. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to notify the Fountain Valley Police Department at (714) 965-4481.
