PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Miller to Start Against 49ers

Chris Chandler’s sprained left ankle was still too sore to practice Thursday, and Coach Chuck Knox named Chris Miller the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game at San Francisco.

Knox is still undecided on who Miller’s backup will be--Chandler, Tommy Maddox or Jamie Martin, whom the team re-signed Wednesday.

Chandler wouldn’t rule out being the backup Sunday, but it appears the ankle will keep him out.

“It’s getting better but it’s too sore to do anything with it,” Chandler said. “Chuck said he was going to start CMil. If I’m not ready to start, I want to take the time to get it completely right.”

Chandler played catch with trainers during practice, backpedaled and tripped over an orange construction cone at the edge of the field. He jokingly faulted trainer Jim Anderson “for not telling me it was there.”

Chandler reported no injury, but was a little embarrassed.

“It sounds like this thing might be a big deal tomorrow,” he said.
