HOLLYWOOD PARK : Ferrara Equals Track Record

Share

Ferrara, a colt bred by the late Don Ameche and now racing for the actor’s son, Don Ameche Jr., has raced twice since returning from an injury, and the results have been fast and faster.

On Oct. 22, Ferrara ran six furlongs in 1:08 3/5 at Santa Anita, and on Thursday he won by three lengths over Isitingood at Hollywood Park, tying the track record for 6 1/2 furlongs with a clocking of 1:13 4/5.

Ferrara was a promising 2-year-old for trainer Gary Jones a year ago, running third in the Del Mar Futurity and the Norfolk at Santa Anita, but he cracked a bone in a hind leg early this year. Ferrara scored his victory at Santa Anita, by a half-length, also over Isitingood, in his first start in almost 10 months.

Ridden again Thursday by Chris Antley, Ferrara took the lead on the turn and hit the wire in the same time that Arches Of Gold posted in setting the track record in 1992. Ferrara paid $6.20 as the second choice.

Alex Solis was unseated by his mount, Make Your Call, at the start of the third race. The jockey suffered a cut on his left hand and took off the rest of his mounts after complaining of dizziness.
