Irvine

City Council meeting

Where: Council Chambers, One Civic Center Plaza

What: The city’s Public Works and Transportation Services departments will present an overview of the city’s relationship to the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road project. In September, Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (R-Newport Beach) told council members the city could be entangled in lawsuits filed by county residents to keep tollbooths off Newport Coast Drive. Some residents testified against the plan at that meeting. “This will be a little more objective, informational kind of report,” said Councilman Barry J. Hammond. “It will clarify the city’s position in all of this.”

Brea-Olinda Unified

School board meeting

Where: Brea Civic and Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle, Brea

When: 7:30 p.m. Monday

What: The school board is expected approve allowing two administrators and all seven trustees to attend the annual California School Board Assn. conference in San Diego this month. The district would pay $6,400 to have officials attend the conference.

Huntington Beach

City Council meeting

When: 6:30 p.m. Monday

Where: Council chambers, 2000 Main St.

What: The council will conduct a public hearing to consider increasing the oil barrel tax and to impose a business license tax on rental properties of one or two units. A hearing will also be conducted to increase certain fees for the FireMed Program, the city’s paramedic membership program. Another hearing is scheduled to establish provisions in the city’s code to regulate carts and kiosks downtown. The council also will consider responding to Councilman David Sullivan’s request that the city attorney prepare a directive for the release of gross salary information on all city employees without disclosing the identity of the employee holding a specific position.

Orange

City Council meeting

When: 7 p.m. Tuesday

Where: Council chambers, 300 E. Chapman Ave.

What: The council will conduct a public hearing on a proposed change in the zoning code. The change would revise the permit process for businesses that want to sell alcoholic beverages. The code would restrict the ability of the Police Department to overrule permits granted by the Planning Commission because the alcohol would be sold in a high-crime area.
