SUN VALLEY : Schoolchildren Get Early Taste of the Holiday
Donning pilgrim hats and Native American vests made from construction paper, first- and second-graders at Vinedale Elementary School in Sun Valley sat down Tuesday to an early Thanksgiving feast.
“It’s an opportunity for parents to be involved in the school . . . and the kids get totally involved in the costumes, the preparation of the food and the eating of the food, which is the most important part,” Principal Gayle Biava said.
The youngsters partook of a cornucopia of pumpkin bread that they made, fruit salad, apple juice and popcorn. But there was no turkey and dressing.
“Turkey at 9 in the morning would have been a little heavy,” Biava said.
