PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Mosebar Likes to Stay in Center of Things

Share

It’s not easy to get center Don Mosebar off the field.

Coach Art Shell tried Sunday when Mosebar twisted his ankle and hurt his ribs against the New Orleans Saints at the Coliseum. When Mosebar appeared to be in pain, Shell sent in backup Dan Turk.

“I got it,” said Mosebar, waving Turk off.

Having started 85 games in a row, most among active Raiders, and having served as the latest iron-man Raider center, following Jim Otto and Dave Dalby, Mosebar wasn’t about to voluntarily leave the field.

He sat out practice Wednesday, but has promised to be ready for Sunday’s game at the Coliseum against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“If there’s any way he can play, he will,” Shell said.

Turk knows better than anyone how tough it is to budge Mosebar. Turk has been waiting in the wings for 5 1/2 years as Mosebar’s understudy.

Cornerback Albert Lewis, who sat out the last two games because of a sprained right knee, returned to practice and is hoping to play Sunday.

Fellow cornerback Lionel Washington, who sat out Sunday’s game because of a bruised calf muscle, sat out practice as well and is questionable for Sunday.
