A 27-year-old farm worker has been arrested on suspicion of molesting an 8-year-old girl whom his wife was baby-sitting at their Oxnard home, police said.
Martin Castro Suarez was taken into custody at his job in Somis on Wednesday morning, a year after police first obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Detective Ken Kent said Suarez agreed to be interviewed by Oxnard police in late 1993, then moved from his home to an unknown address. Officers picked him up this week after learning that he was working at a Somis farm.
Kent said the incident occurred when the 8-year-old girl and her younger brother were left at Suarez's home overnight. Because it was a cold night, Suarez's wife allowed the children to sleep in the couple's bed. Then in the morning, when she left to fix her husband a sandwich, Suarez allegedly molested the girl, Kent said.
The girl later told her mother about the incident. The county Public Social Services Agency referred the complaint to Oxnard police for investigation.
Suarez was being held in County Jail late Thursday in lieu of $50,000.
