SIMI VALLEY : A Year Without Hot Dogs Is Ending

Share

After a year of closed concession stands at Simi Valley parks, residents will once again be able to purchase hot dogs and sodas at softball games, park officials said.

The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District recently signed a five-year contract with Nizar Patel, owner of Shakey’s Pizza in Mountaingate Plaza, to operate and improve two snack bars on park district property.

The stands are near softball diamonds at Rancho Simi Community Park and Rancho Santa Susana Community Park.

Poor sales prompted the previous operator to close last year, district board member James Meredith said.

“This is a good deal, I think,” Meredith said. “It’s convenient for people in the park to be able to get hot drinks on a cold night or cold drinks on a hot night.”

Patel’s contract begins Jan. 1. After he makes some improvements, the stands will be open on a regular basis during evening sports league games and on the weekends. Patel said he will sell hot dogs, cold sandwiches, chips, sodas, pretzels and ice cream.
