OJAI : Residents to Protest Weather Radar Tower
Hoping to persuade the federal government to remove a weather radar tower on Sulphur Mountain, Ojai Valley residents will hold a candlelight vigil tonight in Libby Park.
Opponents fear that radiation emitted by the 98-foot-tall National Weather Service tower, nicknamed “the Black Orb,” is hazardous to their health. Federal officials have maintained that the radiation is harmless.
Tonight’s event, which begins at 6 p.m., will include bagpipe music. It is sponsored by Citizens Against Radiation and singer Rickie Lee Jones.
