DIAMOND BAR: A 27-year-old Montclair man was killed Monday night in a hit-and-run accident on the Pomona (60) Freeway. Crispin Vazquez was hit at 6:45 p.m. as he pulled over to the shoulder to investigate mechanical problems with his truck, authorities said. Vazquez was under the rear portion of the attached trailer when he was struck in the head by a car that did not stop. EL MONTE: A 58-year-old El Monte man died Saturday in a hit-and-run accident while he was walking across Valley Boulevard. Antonio Balderas suffered head and internal injuries and died at Greater El Monte Community Hospital five hours after the 7 p.m. accident.

EL MONTE: An 85-year-old woman was beaten to death Tuesday and her middle-aged daughter was assaulted, sheriff’s deputies said. The incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m in the 10000 block of Giovane Street. No further information was available.

MONROVIA: Police shot and wounded a 42-year-old man Saturday after he threatened police officers who responded to a call at his house. Douglas Rowland was shot in the upper torso and was in stable condition at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, police said. Police responded to a domestic dispute call at a home in the 200 block of N. Encinitas Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. When officers contacted Rowland, who lived at the house, he told them he was armed and that he would shoot any officer who came into his house. After a two-hour standoff, Rowland walked out of the back door armed with a rifle and confronted officers. The officers ordered Rowland to drop his rifle and when he didn’t comply, shot him.

POMONA: A 4-year-old Hollywood boy died Thursday after a 125-pound barbell fell on his chest. Jakeita Clayton died at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles at about 2:45 p.m. Jakeita was visiting relatives at a home in the 1300 block of Clovis Court and was playing alone in the back yard when he somehow managed to cause the barbell to fall from a weight bench, police said.

POMONA: A 4-year-old Pomona boy was injured Thursday when he apparently ran into the path of a car. Jesus Orosco was taken to Pomona Valley Community Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries after the 1:15 p.m. accident, police said. Jesus was playing in an alleyway on Friar Lane when he ran into the path of a car driven by Gabriel Zamora, 22, of Pomona. Zamora was not cited.

WALNUT: A 33-year-old man committed suicide at 8 a.m. Tuesday by jumping from a building on the Mt. San Antonio College campus. The man, whose identity was not released because his relatives have not yet been notified, was taken to San Dimas Community Hospital, where he died a short time later, sheriff’s deputies said.
