Police are still looking for the gunmen who shot two men in separate incidents in Oxnard, authorities said Thursday.

Tommy Vasquez, 20, was shot in the chest from a passing car about 7 p.m. Wednesday as he walked alone on Colonia Road. Oxnard police spokesman David Keith said gang slogans were yelled from the car before the shot was fired. He said police do not know what caliber weapon was used.

Keith said Vasquez was listed in stable condition in St. John’s Regional Medical Center on Thursday.

Three hours later, police were called to 831 S. E St., where they found Joseph Moraga, 29, of Santa Paula shot several times in the hip, Keith said.

Keith said Moraga was shot as he stood in an alley behind a residence. Moraga was standing with several other people when three men passed the group in the alley and one of the men shot Moraga, Keith said.

He said no motive for the shooting is known, but both incidents are thought to be gang-related.

Moraga was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit of St. John’s Regional Medical Center Thursday.
