From Associated Press

Doug West made two free throws with 47 seconds to play Thursday night to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a 96-94 victory over the Utah Jazz at Salt Lake City.

The victory was only the second of the season for the Timberwolves, who will play the winless Clippers on Saturday night at the Sports Arena.

The Timberwolves, who ended a seven-game losing streak, outscored the Jazz over the final two minutes, 8-3. West, who finished with 18 points, also scored on a dunk with 1:23 to play.

Utah had a chance to tie in the final 10 seconds after Christian Laettner of the Timberwolves missed a 15-foot shot.

But David Benoit missed on a three-point shot in the final three seconds. Jeff Hornacek got the rebound and appeared to be fouled as he tried to shoot, but officials Ron Garrettson, Nolan Fine and Mark Wunderlic waved it off, saying time had expired.

Denver 89, Dallas 80--Rodney Rogers scored 20 points and Brian Williams scored 15 for the Nuggets at Dallas.

The Nuggets, who ended a three-game losing streak, led by 22 points in the third quarter. The victory made up for a 124-123 overtime loss to the Mavericks last Saturday in which the Nuggets blew a 25-point lead at Denver.

Cleveland 93, Milwaukee 87--Todd Day scored a career-high 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Bucks at Milwaukee.

Mark Price scored 17 points and Chris Mills scored 15 for the Cavaliers, who held the Bucks to 30 points in the second half in winning their fourth in row.

Olajuwon also had 13 rebounds and a season-high 12 assists.

Latrell Sprewell scored 30 points for the Warriors.
