The suspicious disappearance of a young Lancaster couple four days ago has prompted Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies to launch a murder investigation, authorities said Sunday.

The investigation was sparked by the discovery of a bullet lodged in a wall at the home of Carlos and Delia Guevera in the 42000 block of Alep Street, Deputy Rich Erickson said.

Deputies found the bullet after they entered the house to check on the couple. A friend reported the Gueveras missing Saturday after neither reported to work.

Delia Esther Guevera, 26, is an assistant manager at a Palmdale fast-food restaurant, a co-worker confirmed. Her husband, Carlos, also 26, works at a Best Buy retail store near the Antelope Valley Mall, said Deputy Brian Jones.

The couple’s car, a maroon 1994 Pontiac Grand Am, was reported missing as was personal property from the home, Erickson said.

According to neighbors, the couple had only lived at the home a couple of months and kept to themselves most of the time. They had installed automatic lighting and sprinkler systems that made it difficult to tell when they were home, said a neighbor who declined to be named.

“They cleaned out the yard, did improvements on the house and that was about it,” the neighbor said, adding that he saw visitors at the couple’s home only once.

Carlos Guevera was described as about 5-foot-8, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Delia was described as 5-foot-8, 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
