ROSEMEAD : Boy Drowned in Washing Machine, Autopsy Finds
An autopsy performed Tuesday confirmed that a 2-year-old boy who fell into a washing machine died of “accidental drowning,” a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Robert Moreno was found by his grandmother about 10 minutes after the accident Sunday night. Pathologists detected no signs of foul play, said Deputy Jeff Cannon.
The toddler was taken to Garfield Medical Center after someone called 911. Deputies who arrived at the scene found Robert Moreno, whose wife also was home, trying to revive his son.
“The top of the washer was propped open during the wash cycle because of a faulty mechanism,” Deputy Diane Hecht said. “The boy apparently crawled on top of a top-loading washing machine (that was) running in the kitchen and fell in.”
