A 65-year-old man was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday for strangling his wife of 42 years, then burying her body beneath their home.
Henry Castorena showed no reaction when the court clerk read the verdict, which came nearly three weeks after the Los Angeles Superior Court jury began its deliberations.
Castorena faces 15 years to life in prison when he is sentenced by Superior Court Judge Mary Ann Murphy on Jan. 3 for the murder of his 64-year-old wife, Hortencia.
Her body was discovered Nov. 13, 1993, after the family dog began digging under the house. The animal ran to the nearby home of the couple’s daughter and kept barking until she and her husband went to the house and found the body.
Castorena had been arrested two months earlier when his wife could not be found, but he was released for lack of evidence.
