Defensive tackle D’Marco Farr, who suffered a hyper-extended elbow Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, is expected to be put on injured reserve today and replaced on the roster by defensive end Jay Williams, who has been on the Rams’ practice squad.

The Rams thought the hiring of Wayne Sevier, acknowledged around the league as one of the game’s premier special teams coaches, was going to make the difference in two or three games this season.

What has happened is not what they had in mind. Special teams blunders have figured prominently in several losses.

“There’s no question about it,” Sevier said. “I fully accept the fact I haven’t gotten it done on special teams. Our special teams haven’t done it, and I haven’t been able to communicate and motivate in a way that I normally feel I can do. And that’s my responsibility.”

Ram special teams have given up four returns for touchdowns, and in the last two games, punt returner Todd Kinchen has fumbled the ball away three times.
